15 Years on: 25 Eagles Greatest Players - No. 13

Eddie Begley

When I first met Eddie, he told me that he was left D-man. Why would you want to play anywhere else? Well, as it transpired, Ed did want to play elsewhere and turned out to be as a good a goalie as he was a player.

Eddie became solid in net for the Beagles, and would go on to represent the roller hockey national squad. He continued his goaltending career with a season in Deeside in the NIHL. However, more importantly, he continued as go-to left defenseman for the Eagles. He was great at defending and making incredible passes to unleash the forwards. Equally, he could chip in with goals of his own, such as the game tying goal against Nottingham in Dundee in a crowd of over 500 people.

His skills with rushing the puck, making the passes and taking a cannon of a shot made him a complete defenceman. He did have the strongest West-coast accent I had ever heard, so I guess you can’t have it all.
