15 Years on: 25 Eagles Greatest Players - No. 10

Robert McGarry

Rab (Scottish for Robert) was small in stature, but played a big game. Like a lot of top notch Scottish players, he was trained in Fife Juniors system and had a real understanding of the game - as backed up by his strong skating and quick hands. Despite being one of the smaller players on the ice, he was very difficult to knock off the puck. He was a regular contributor on the score sheet and could find the net in many different ways. On top of that, he even managed to set up Matt Dible’s first goal (you too can create miracles). He was also an important part in Phoenix Scottish Cup win in 2013.

My favourite Rab goal came away to Birmingham, in which he shot a wrister top cheddar from just inside the blueline - a goal that would prove to be the game winner. Rab was one of the more memorable characters in the Eagles, but it was his contributions on the ice which always set him apart.
